Game of Thrones’ Upcoming Prequel May Confirm a Fan-Favorite Character’s Bombshell Connection
And some hints were given already in Game of Thrones.
Summary:
- Game of Thrones ’ story is far from over with all of its prequels being in the works — and one of them may make things clear about a viral fan theory.
- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the release date for which is yet unknown, will revolve around the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall who, according to the theory, may be related to one of Winterfell’s inhabitants.
- Some slight hints about this relationship have been given in Game of Thrones and may be brought up again in the upcoming spin-off.
Game of Thrones, a fantasy show that acquired a cult status during the years of its run, may be over ever since 2019, but its story is so vast that numerous prequels, which are already in the works, will probably not be enough.
So far the show’s only and extremely successful sequel House of the Dragon got to recount the House of Targaryen’s story, but one more spin-off is already on its way too — and it may finally shed some light on a beloved character’s family line.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the upcoming prequel, will follow the events that unfold a century before Game of Thrones picked up the story and will revolve around two future heroes — Dunk, in the future known as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire Egg who later will become King Aegon V Targaryen.
As the upcoming spin-off is setting its focus on Ser Duncan’s adventurous life, it may also become a huge revelation about the character’s relation to none other than Hodor.
It initially seems to be impossible, but some Game of Thrones’ details will eventually make everyone connect the dots if we follow it in the right order. The original show’s season 1 finds Winterfell with Old Nan living in there as the House’s oldest person — she’s also the great-grandmother of Hodor, Winterfell’s obtuse, yet loyal servant.
The plot doesn’t go deep into Old Nan’s story, but it’s known from the books that she had lost all of her children and grandchildren either in battles or due to their decisions to move somewhere they eventually died.
Old Nan soon dies too and there’s no further mention of her until Bran gets a vision of a man looking like Hodor kissing a mysterious woman. Given that Ser Duncan and Hodor are pretty much alike in their appearance, in the upcoming prequel it may come as a confirmation that it was Ser Duncan who got to be Hodor’s great-grandfather.
Such a mind-blowing plot twist has even more chances to be brought up due to the fact that George R.R. Martin's books never confirmed or debunked such a theory.
Given that Game of Thrones’ creators didn’t stick too much to the original source either, the prequel’s creators may also be tempted by adding more Easter eggs referring to the cult show.
