Some love stories should never happen for the sake of everyone's mental health.

It's not like Game of Thrones has not had enough weird and creepy romances — after all, one of the main couples in the show is openly into incest. However, there was one romantic storyline that did not happen, and honestly, we are all better off without it.

Turns out that Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) and Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) could have been a thing. Davos, also known as the Onion Knight, was introduced in season 2, and remained one of Jon Snow's close allies up to the point of the notorious mutiny.

Missandei came into the spotlight in season 3, being Daenyrys' handmaiden and advisor, as well as her close friend.

Iconic Game of Thrones Role Was Almost Played by Another Popular Actress

However, the idea of the two engaging into romance was shot down by Cunningham himself, even though director Mark Mylod supported the idea.

But the actor seemed to know his character better, as he noted that "with Davos's history with Lyanna Mormont and Shireen [Baratheon], you can't have him getting the hots for a young woman."

This was revealed in James Hibberd's recent book, Fire Cannot Kill A Dragon: Game of Thrones and the Official Untold Story of the Epic Series.

Cunningham's point certainly echoes with a lot of fans, who blasted the romance idea as "terrible" and "extremely creepy", arguing that Liam and Nathalie "don't have that chemistry in the first place, nevermind the age difference."

According to fans, the fact that it was the actor who had to strike down the idea for the sake of making the show better actually highlights a huge problem with Game of Thrones.

"It's become incredibly clear in the years since the show [ended] that the actors cared a lot more about the show being true to the spirit of the characters than the showrunners did," Redditor Benjamin_Grimm noted.

GoT fans are still not over the controversial series finale that aired in 2019 and inflicted so much backlash that there were huge petitions for the showrunners to reshoot the ending. However, fan riots did not result in any changes in the show, so up to this day, a big part of the fandom prefers not to think about the season 8 finale too much.

But, after all, one can always find relief in a though that it could be even worse.
