Game of Thrones Fans Say One Character Was Just As Bad as Joffrey (If Not Worse)
Is it even possible?
This series has captured the imagination of millions of people around the world. However, one topic that has been hotly debated among fans is the character of the young Baratheon (hmm, Lannister) and his reign as king.
Some fans have gone so far as to say that Tommen was just as bad as Joffrey, if not worse.
They point to the young king's indecisiveness, lack of leadership, and inability to control his advisors as evidence of his incompetence as a ruler.
They also argue that his meekness and naivete have made him a pawn in the schemes of others.
After Joffrey, this sweet boy seemed like a nice substitute to many viewers, but the king should not be pleasant, he should be efficient.
The manners of one of the show's main villains were certainly out of place in the Seven Kingdoms, but no one would have thought of bossing a tyrant while Tommen is dependent on the opinions of others.
"I agree! I actually think there's an argument that Tommen is worse than Joffrey. He had no control whatsoever during his reign," said Redditor SamuraiJB. Many fans note that while Joffrey is a character to loathe, Tommen is a character to be frustrated with.
First Cersei pushed her baby around, and after their first night together, Margaery took over. Joffrey's assassination so deftly made her the true Queen of Westeros.
However, when King Tommen's beloved wife was taken hostage by the High Sparrow, the young man could do nothing, even though he had the entire Kingsguard and House Lannister army at his command.
This led to the tragic end not only for Tommen, but also for several other characters dear to him.
Of course, not all Game of Thrones fans agree with this assessment of King's character.
Some argue that he was simply a young boy thrust into a position of power before he was ready, and that his mistakes were understandable given his lack of experience and guidance.
They also point out that Tommen was a more sympathetic character than Joffrey, and that he genuinely cared for his wife Margaery and his people.
Tommen's reign as King was a tumultuous and controversial period in the history of Westeros.
Whether he was as bad as Joffrey or simply a victim of circumstance, his sudden demise in season 6 episode 9 will be remembered for years as one of the most surprising in the entire series.
