If we were to write a list of logical or justified death ideas for this notorious character, their demise on the show would have probably ranked second last.

Summary:

  • Game of Thrones finale butchered many storylines and character arcs.
  • Cersei Lannister was among the worst people on the show, and she deserved a special ending.
  • From Arya to Jaime to Daenerys, any executioner for Cersei would have made more sense than a bunch of falling rocks.

We can all agree that the whole “subverting expectations” thing was taken way too far on Game of Thrones… To the point where to subvert fans’ expectations, they were given the most anticlimactic ending instead of the anticipated grand finale. But some characters’ deaths still make little to no sense even in this twisted version.

Cersei Lannister Was An Overall Terrible Person

While in Game of Thrones nothing is black-and-white and betrayals and backstabbing are your average Tuesday, it’s never been hard to pinpoint the worst and most hated characters. Ramsey Bolton and Joffrey Baratheon share the first spot as sadistic maniacs, and the latter’s mother comes close second in this race.

Cersei Lannister was, without a doubt, one of the worst people in Game of Thrones; as her brother Tyrion once eloquently put it, her only redeeming qualities were her love for her children and her cheekbones. Other than that, Cersei was a treacherous, unhinged, and sadistic person who was willing to do anything for power — be it political schemes or mass murders in the capital’s greatest cathedral.

Cersei’s Demise On The Show Was Anticlimactic

For her countless crimes and heinous deeds, Cersei Lannister deserved a truly special finale that, no matter which version you prefer, saw her die by someone’s hand. There were many people she wronged, and all of them wanted her blood.

Lena Headey and Maisie Williams, the show’s lead actresses, envisioned the finale where Arya kills Cersei after pretending to be her lover brother Jaime. The real Jaime killing his sister sounded good, too, as the ultimate finale of his glorious redemption arc. Even a showdown between Cersei and Daenerys, the two self-proclaimed Queens of the Seven Kingdoms, would have made sense.

If we were to write a list of all the death ideas for Cersei Lannister and rank them by how justified, logical, or satisfying they were, being crushed by a bunch of falling rocks would have been probably second to last. The only idea worse than that would be Cersei winning the final battle and peacefully dying decades later in her sleep.
