Game of Thrones Celeb Cameo Nobody Noticed (And No, It's Not Ed Sheeran)
Ed Sheeran's cameo appearance, after all, hardly can qualify for a "cameo nobody noticed".
The fact that Ed Sheeran appeared as one of nameless Lannister soldiers in an episode of Game of Thrones had been noticed long ago, and even became somewhat famous.
But did you know that Rob McElhenney, famous for his black comedy sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, also had a cameo on Game of Thrones, as another nameless soldier, this time an Ironborn, who appeared in Season 8 Episode 1, Winterfell.
He was more difficult to spot and recognize than Ed Sheeran because of heavy makeup, imitating a gruesome facial injury.
As it happens, Rob was a longtime fan of Game of Thrones, and a friend of its showrunners (Benioff and Weiss even asked him if they could write an episode for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and he agreed, resulting in the Flowers for Charlie episode), so his eventual cameo is not surprising.

But Sheeran and McElhenney are not the only celebrities who had cameos on Game of Thrones. Far from it. And most of those celebrities who appeared in cameos did, like Sheeran, achieve their fame through their involvement with music.
Will Champion, the drummer of the highly popular Coldplay rock band, appeared, perhaps unsurprisingly, as the drummer of the band of musicians who played during the Red Wedding. Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol appeared in Season 3, as a Bolton soldier, who played his pipes to the tune of The Bear And The Maiden Fair, a song written specifically for Game of Thrones.
The Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós appeared in Season 4 Episode 2, which featured another infamous wedding, ending with poisoning of King Joffrey – they played a band of musicians who performed their own versions of Rains of Castamere at Joffrey's wedding, but failed to impress him. And yet another Icelandic band, Of Monsters And Men made a cameo in Season 6, playing a theatre troupe's musicians in Braavos.

At least after a time you knew that whenever musicians appear on Game of Thrones, you should look out for a cameo!
