Game of Thrones has had one too many jaw-dropping scenes over its duration, and while some of them are just brutal, others are nothing but iconic at this point.

Love it or hate it, Game of Thrones was a massive cultural phenomenon and still maintains the title of one of the most watched and discussed TV shows ever.

Its sheer scale is overwhelming to this day, and the mastery of its creators has turned some scenes from the series into cultural gags in their own right.

We picked five most memorable Game of Thrones scenes to recall the good old days with you — and we specifically avoided any and all battles as there were just too many good ones.

So no Battle of Bastards or the Mountain versus the Viper duel on this list.

Here are the top 5 most iconic non-battle scenes in the history of GoT.

5. "The things I do for love"

At the end of the pilot episode, Jaime Lannister said these words right before pushing 10-year-old Bran Stark out of the tower window for witnessing Jaime and his sister Queen Cercei make love.

Back then, it was a massive shock for the viewers as it was the first case of unexpected brutality on the show… But far from the last.

4. "I wish I was the monster you think I am"

Tyrion Lannister's always been a wise and patient man, but even he was bound to break at some point.

The unjust court led by his father to accuse him of his nephew's murder was one thing, but hearing the love of his life lie about their relationship to his face was too much — and Tyrion lost it, making perhaps the best court speech ever.

3. "Hold the door"

Bran's warging abilities created a weird time-space warp which saw young Hodor have a seizure while many years later, old Hodor was sacrificing his life to save Bran.

Hodor was not a name: it was the last version of the phrase "Hold the door" before the poor man lost his strength. We lost him as soon as we understood him.

2. *Complete silence*

Cercei was triumphant after blowing up the Sept of Baelor and killing off most of her political enemies with it, and she watched the explosion in malevolent silence.

But one of the people she blew up with the Sept was her last child's love, Margaery Tyrell — and poor Tommen just as silently went out of the window after that.

1. "Lannisters send their regards"

Of course, one of the most sudden and brutal twists in the entire Game of Thrones is here to top off the list.

The Freys butchered the entire Robb Stark's army and present family in the most unhinged fashion while the Starks were their guests.

The bone-chilling phrase Walder Frey said as he watched them die made this scene both horrifying and unforgettable. We still hear "The Rains of Castamere" play in our heads.
