Forgotten Sci-Fi Drama Had The Walking Dead’s Negan and Governor Teaming Up
Why Extant is the show every The Walking Dead fan didn't know they needed.
If you're a fan of The Walking Dead, then you can’t possibly forget two characters: the Governor and Negan, two of the most iconic villains of this universe.
You might be surprised to find out that the talented actors who portrayed these baddies, David Morrissey and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, teamed up for another show, the sci-fi drama Extant, and it's a must-watch.
Before Negan made his memorable debut, the Governor was considered to be the most menacing antagonist of The Walking Dead. David Morrissey played the role of the charismatic yet ruthless leader who ruled the town of Woodbury.
He was the kind of guy who'd smile at you one moment and then stab you in the back the next. Literally. The Governor was a complex character, and Morrissey nailed the role, making us love to hate him.
Then came Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who portrayed Negan, the leader of the Saviors. Armed with his barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat named Lucille, Negan is terrifying and charming at the same time.
Extant brought these two The Walking Dead villains together. Extant is a sci-fi drama that aired from 2014 to 2015, starring Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns from space pregnant with an alien baby. Yep, it's as wild as it sounds.
Before Jeffrey Dean Morgan joined TWD, he portrayed JD Richter in the second (and last) season of Extant. Ritcher is a rugged and roguish cop and bounty hunter who becomes an unlikely ally to Halle Berry's character.
David Morrissey also joined season 2 as Tobias Shepherd, the head of the Global Security Commission. He's a far cry from The Governor. He's the guy in charge of figuring out all the weird stuff happening on Earth and in space.
In an interview with Digital Spy, David Morrissey shared that Morgan is his mate, and he loved his portrayal of Negan, even though he stopped watching the show shortly after Negan's entry on the show. Fans keep on imagining cool stuff like, "What if the Governor and Negan actually crossed paths?"
That’s why you should check out Extant. It's not every day that you get to see two iconic villains from one show team up in a completely different universe. Plus, the chemistry between Morrissey and Morgan is electric.
