Forget Train to Busan, Netflix K-Horror From the Same Director Is a New Must Watch

While many people don't recognize horror as a serious genre, the reality is that it's not easy to make. This is especially true for those horror movies and TV shows that don't use cheap gimmicks to scare the audience, but rely more on building tension, deep lore, and mind-bending twists.

There are not many quality horror films out there, but every time one is released, it immediately takes over the minds of horror fans. Netflix 's latest K-horror premiere, Parasyte: The Grey, is by no means an exception. The show's immediate rise to the top of the streamer's charts is just another proof of this.

What Parasyte: The Grey Is About?

There are several sub-genres to every horror movie. There are slashers, which rely heavily on ultra violence, gore and bloody scenes, there are fantasy horrors, there are stories about all kinds of paranormal and supernatural, like ghosts and aliens. Parasyte: The Grey fits best into the latter category, as it features a group of parasitic creatures from outer space.

If COVID wasn't enough to scare you into religious hand washing and personal hygiene, then this show should do the trick. The parasites in this show take over any human they enter, turning them into shape-shifting creatures and causing them to lose their humanoid identity.

In the middle of the story is Jeong Su-in, the only parasite victim who managed to fight for at least half of her brain and got stuck in a coexistence state with the one creature that tried to take over her.

Together with Seol Kang-woo, who is looking for his missing sister, and Choi Jun-kyung, a leader of Team Grey, who is in charge of getting rid of the parasites, they go on a journey to free the earth from the unwanted infiltration.

One of the best things that shows the quality of the show is having a team behind it. Parasyte: The Grey is directed and co-written by Yeon Sang-ho, the mastermind behind Train to Busan, its animated prequel Seoul Station, and its sequel Peninsula.

The critical acclaim the franchise has received over the years is a testament to the creator's ability to craft a great horror story. So there is no need to doubt that Parasyte: The Grey will bring just as much terror and thrill to your life.

So far, the show has received a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
