Forget The Rings of Power, New Tolkien Project May Fix Its Mistakes
Fans hope the upcoming animated project will pay tribute to the writer's great legacy.
The legacy of the great writer J.R.R. Tolkien lives on, but not all of its manifestations are equally successful. After mixed (mostly negative and neutral) reviews of The Rings of Power, it became known that several projects in Tolkien's universe are being planned, but the project that currently attracts the most attention and hopes of fans is full-length anime – The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
What Will The Anime Be About?
The upcoming project tells the story of Helm Hammerhand and the defense of the fortress of Hornburg in Helm's Deep.
The events described above were precipitated by the murder of Freca, the ruler of the lands of the Dunlendings. At one of the councils, he asked for the hand of King Rohan's daughter for his son, to which Helm responded only with ridicule. Then Freca, enraged by the refusal, insulted the king and began to threaten him.
At the end of the council, Hammerhand refused to stand before the overstepping ruler and struck him dead with a single fist, banishing those who had accompanied him and declaring them enemies of the kingdom.
After a number of years, Rohan is attacked from the east by the Easterlings, against whom they must fight alone, without Gondor, which itself has been attacked. Seeing a golden opportunity for revenge, the Dunlendings, led by Wulf, son of Freka, will march from the west. Helm will take up the fight, but will be forced to retreat with heavy losses to Hornburg, where he and the rest of the army will be besieged.
The Anime Adaptation is Helmed by Acclaimed Masters
Leading the work on a feature-length animated film of this magnitude is Kenji Kamiyama, a man with a wealth of experience and an excellent understanding of the world of anime. He is best known for the acclaimed Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, where he not only directed, but also wrote some episodes.
Phoebe Gittins, daughter of Philippa Boyens, who wrote the screenplays for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies, is working on the screenplay. Boyens and Kamiyama are co-writing the plot, which means that Philippa is most likely consulting with the anime director so that the prequel does not conflict with Peter Jackson's films.
The Upcoming Project Has a Star-Studded Cast
The voicing cast also adds to the confidence in the future success of the project: there is Miranda Otto, who played the role of Eowyn in the trilogy, Brian Cox, who will voice Helm, and Luke Pasqualino, who gave his voice to Wulf, son of Freca.
When Will The Anime Hit the Screens?
The War of the Rohirrim is set to be released later this year – on December, 13.
