Last year, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes raged across the US, shutting down nearly the entire entertainment industry. And while streaming services were one of the epitomes of the writers' and actors' protests, many viewers turned to them instead of traditional broadcast television, which was empty due to a lack of new scripted shows. And it was in this context that USA Network's Suits suddenly experienced a phenomenal rise in popularity, even though the show had ended 4 years earlier.
The addition of 8 of the 9 seasons to Netflix obviously had an impact. And now that the streaming service has realized that users are just as interested in watching third-party movies and TV shows as they are in original ones, it has begun to put even more emphasis on licensing them. This is a boon for other companies and studios, as many viewers prefer to spend their time on services that are familiar to them rather than subscribe to new ones.
With that in mind, a procedural show similar to Suits that also aired on USA Network, White Collar, will be coming to Netflix very soon. Let's break down what this show is and why it's worth rushing out to watch.
The Return of the Prodigal Series
In addition to Suits, other series that once aired on USA Network, like Royal Pains and Monk, have landed on Netflix before. And now, it's time for a new one, the dramedy and police procedural White Collar. While it's not a given that we'll be treated to a new resurgence phenomenon that breaks all Nielsen records, as was the case with Suits, White Collar is sure to please all fans of the former show.
Netflix veterans who have been familiar with the online streaming format for movies and TV series since the early '10s may remember that it was once available on the service. In 2014, the first four seasons were added to the streamer's catalog, and in 2015, the entire series became available to Netflix subscribers. In 2018, however, the show sadly left the platform (but not the streaming format in general, as it remained on Disney 's Hulu, for example).
What Is This Show About?
Although it did not enjoy the same level of popularity, White Collar, like Suits, was a milestone in the history of '10s television, capturing the mood of its time quite well.
Created by Jeff Eastin, the series followed the story of Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), a charming and rather ingenious crook and forger who finds himself in the hands of the White Collar Crimes Unit of the FBI's New York field office. Naturally, the cunning protagonist decides to make a deal with the FBI: he will be their consultant and informant, helping them solve white-collar crimes in New York City in exchange for parole.
Hurry Up and Binge-Watch It!
Unfortunately, Netflix's deal with Disney means that any show added to the Netflix library will only be available for 18 months. A year and a half is plenty of time to binge-watch all 81 episodes of White Collar, but if you're interested in catching up or revisiting the series, it's worth getting it as soon as possible! According to the date the show will be added, it should disappear from Netflix US on October 1, 2025.
All seasons of White Collar will be coming to Netflix on April 1, 2024. However, it appears that it will still be available for streaming on Disney's Hulu and Amazon's Freevee.
