Forget Jessica Knight, These Characters Need More Recognition in Season 22
Unlike literally everyone else, these two have always been there.
NCIS is officially over its season 21 and is heading to the next installment which is set to be released later this year, and there seems to be so many questions that it needs to find answers for.
The latest season ended on two major cliffhangers, suggesting that Jessica Knight will inevitably leave the MCRT for a bigger role on the other side of the country, while Alden Parker’s backstory will receive an update after his hallucination on the boat.
Though these are the most popular things for fans to keep speculating regarding the upcoming season, two other characters also need a bigger development, and they actually deserve it more than anyone else.
Ever since NCIS’ first season was launched back in 2003, the CBS police procedural giant has featured Timothy McGee, portrayed by Sean Murray, and Jimmy Palmer, played by Brian Dietzen. Both don’t appear to be the characters who the main drama revolves around (Jimmy suddenly got involved after starting an official romance with Jessica Knight), yet only McGee and Palmer got a remarkable standout throughout the whole series’ run.
Having started their way in NCIS as just guest stars in season 1, both characters eventually joined the main cast and became characters whose career paths were as compelling as those of the leads. On top of that, these two are the only Major Case Response Team members who have been around since the first NCIS season.
Timothy McGee first appears on the show as an agent whose excellent technical lore earns him an opportunity to assist the MCRT on several cases until his own innovative program gives him a whole new career boost.
Using his brainchild, McGee is able to track down the first season’s terrorist Ari Haswari, something that later on gives the character full approval from Gibbs and a brand new position as a full-time agent.
Unlike his tech colleague, Brian Dietzen’s Jimmy Palmer had a long way to securing his position in the NCIS team. Jimmy kicked his career off as an Assistant Medical Examiner to Dr. Mallard with whom he eventually becomes good friends until the latter’s death in season 21.
Having started as a temporary replacement for Ducky’s assistant Gerald Jackson, Jimmy nonetheless gets the job after Jackson resigns and later on reaches a new level becoming the Chief Medical Examiner for the MCRT and still keeping this position by season 21.
Given that both McGee and Palmer have been in NCIS longer than anyone else in the team, their storylines surely deserve to be explored in a more meticulous way than before. The show’s upcoming season will most likely give more attention to Palmer due to his unfolding drama with Jessica Knight and her departure, and fingers are also crossed for McGee who might as well receive some sort of plot twist that will allow the series to dive deeper into his story.
