Following Bale and Nolan, the Dark Knight Trilogy Writer Destroys Fan Hopes
For years, the Dark Knight fans have been hoping for another movie with Christian Bale as Batman — but at this point, pretty much everyone involved has stomped on those dreams.
“The Dark Knight trilogy is the best live-action adaptation of Batman ” is one of those opinions that are extremely common and, at the same time, often considered controversial. Not every DC fan would agree Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale did the best job at adapting the Caped Crusader’s story, but still, most viewers share this sentiment.
But if we take a step back from these radical opinions, it’s still pretty clear that the Dark Knight trilogy is one of the best things that have ever happened to DC’s live-action movies. Adored by the audience and critics alike, Nolan’s films defined everyone’s vision of Batman for years to come — and Bale’s performance was nothing short of iconic.
For these reasons, among many others, there are still one too many fans who are eagerly waiting for the fourth movie by Nolan and Bale — the movie that will, admittedly, never come. At this point, it seems like virtually everyone involved with the trilogy has defied the fan hopes, including the director and the lead star.
Christopher Nolan finally addressed the rumors and speculations during the recent press tour for his latest movie Oppenheimer. When asked whether he would make another superhero movie, the director bluntly responded, “No.” At the same time, his lead actor Christian Bale would never reprise the role without Nolan on board!
“I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let's make three films if we're lucky enough to get to do that. And then let's walk away. Let's not linger too long.’ <...> If Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I've got another story to tell,’ and if he wished to tell that story with me, I'd be in,” the actor told ScreenRant.
Recently, David S. Goyer, the writer of the Dark Knight trilogy, joined in on the sentiment and revealed that he, too, wouldn’t do another Batman movie.
“I don’t think that's ever going to happen — and I wouldn’t want to do another Batman project either,” Goyer shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
Sorry to break it to you, folks, but since the director, the lead actor, and the writer are all out of the equation, there’s really no hope we will ever get a fourth Dark Knight movie. We can still hope, though…but what’s the point in that if all Nolan and Goyer have to say about another Batman film is a short and definitive “no”?
