The first movie has just premiered, but a potential sequel already got people talking.

Summary:

  • Five Nights at Freddy's movie adaptation premiered on October 27
  • The movie has largely received positive reviews from fans, with critics being less impressed
  • The sequel has reportedly been in pre-production for some time, and now it's already getting changes

Five Nights at Freddy's has taken the Internet by storm — despite its day-to-day release (it hit big screens and Peacock simultaneously), it was a huge box office success, and it looks like we have a new movie franchise incoming.

Matthew Lillard, the actor behind one of the most complex roles in the movie, has already confirmed that he signed a three-film contract for FNAF (per Variety), and the first movie's director, Emma Tammi, is already excited about the potential sequels, even though they are yet to be officially greenlit.

Spoiler alert for Five Nights at Freddy's!

What Did Five Nights at Freddy's Get Wrong?

Despite the largely warm welcome for the movie from the OG game fans (and satisfying them is quite a task on its own), there was plenty of criticism for Five Nights at Freddy's.

For instance, many people believe Matthew Lillard's villain William Afton was very under-utilized and not menacing enough (at least compared to the video games). Others believe that the table fort scene was pretty cringeworthy instead of illustrating the animatronics' childishness and strive for innocent fun.

Fans also noted that the final moments of Lillard's villain were not nearly as satisfying and impressive as they could be. Looks like the FNAF sequel, if it ever happens, has plenty of stuff to work on. And it seems that the creative team behind the movies understands it!

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Already Undergoing Changes?

A new rumor from FNAF insider entomsalt on X (formerly Twitter) claims that the script for the sequel is already undergoing some changes after the feedback for the first movie.

Although neither the sequel nor the script changes have not been officially confirmed, the very idea of the FNAF team listening to what audiences have to say has caused joy in the fandom.

Even though fans believe Five Nights at Freddy's was good, there were still a lot of things "holding it back," and if the creators take these mistakes into account, then the sequel might be even better than the first movie.

The insider has not provided too much details about the changes themselves, but it is believed that the story will be a sequel to the first movie rather than a prequel to the games.

Tammi has not revealed too much, either.

"This one was tied into the first game, and we would probably focus on tying the second one into the second game, and so on and so forth. But anything could happen. We’ll have to see," the director told Variety.

Five Nights at Freddy's is currently available on Peacock for streaming. The movie has already grossed $152 million worldwide against a budget of $20 million.
