First The Witcher Teaser with Liam Hemsworth Is Out: How Bad Is It?
Netflix just released the first teaser trailer of The Witcher Season 4, giving us the first real look at Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt of Rivia.
The last time Netflix ’s The Witcher looked like it was off to a good start was before it even premiered. While having an avid fan of the franchise as its lead star could have been a great advantage to the TV show, it quickly turned out that neither the showrunner nor the writer’s room cared about the source material. Frustrated by having to constantly fight for every bit of lore, Henry Cavill quit the series after S3.
But Netflix simply sent a new Geralt of Rivia our way… Much to fans’ dismay.
Netflix Drops First Look at Hemsworth’s Witcher
Recently, Netflix released the first official teaser trailer of The Witcher Season 4 — the first season where Henry Cavill will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. There’s not much to go off of in the teaser as it shows the Witcher from behind for the most part, but in the last second of the video, he turns his head so we can see his face.
While it’s definitely not enough to base judgment on, we should say that Liam Hemsworth doesn’t look half bad with the iconic white wig. Assuming he also gives a solid performance, we’d say he would’ve been a great Geralt of Rivia if only he joined the show in Season 1… But now, he has some truly enormous boots to fill.
And fans — oh, fans are not having any of that.
The Witcher Fans Still Hate the S4 Recast
Despite everything, there’s little to nothing Hemsworth can do to change fans’ minds. Henry Cavill was what many call “the definitive Witcher,” and his exit combined the showrunner feud and the underwhelming quality of the TV show overall, don’t leave the new actor much of a chance. It’s not that he’s bad; it’s that Cavill was amazing.
“Why wasn’t this canceled, Netflix? Only the first season was any good, though with flaws. Nobody is interested, the past season was a complete failure even when you still had Cavill. It’s pointless, fans of The Witcher outright reject this travesty,” X (formerly Twitter) user Lucas commented under Netflix’s post.
Both there and on YouTube, fans are going wild, calling Liam Hemsworth’s look “a Witcher at home,” “Gerald of Riviera,” and many other things. At this point, we’re genuinely feeling bad for the actor: when he took on the role, he knew it would be hard to please fans, but this right here in an actual onslaught he didn’t deserve.
