Adapting video games isn't easy, but it looks like the 'Sonic The Hedgehog' franchise is trying its best. Some critics have already seen the second installment and have a lot to say about it.

Currently sitting at a respectful 66% from Rotten Tomatoes (3% above the previous film's results), 'Sonic The Hedgehog 2' seems like a reasonably acceptable sequel. Obviously, it is not trying to blaze new trails or dramatically reverse the previously successful formula, but the overall improvement from the first film can be noticed without a doubt.

Time's Ed Potton describes the film as a "definite improvement on its money-spinning but rather vapid predecessor", and Daily Express' Andy Lea noted that "The 2020 original was surprisingly not terrible. Even more surprisingly, neither is the follow-up. Wisely, this sequel pushes all the same buttons".

Korey Coleman at Double Toasted concludes that "If you're a fan of the first movie, there's no reason why you shouldn't like this".

However, not all critics found the film to be deserving of a praise. With IndieWire's Siddhant Adlakha describing the film as "a trio of dead-eyed toys trudging from scene to scene without charm or personality" and Independent's Clarisse Loughrey saying that the film's main star Jim Carrey just "stands around trying to turn bits of exposition into jokes by gurning and over-enunciating every line", one can feel a certain resentment towards the sequel.

However, the fate of the Sonic is still a long way from being decided – previous film got a great boost from the fans around the world (it got a 93% audience approval from Rotten Tomatoes users), so we just have to wait and see what they think about the next chapter.
