The upcoming spinoff has no merits against its canceled fellow show.

Seems like the last few months have been quite a tough time for the NCIS franchise and especially for its fans. Though things aren’t that bad for the show itself and its spinoffs as NCIS keeps expanding its universe with two more series making their way to the screens soon, some other shows’ brief history on TV isn’t what many viewers would ever want to have.

The recently canceled NCIS: Hawai’i’s huge fandom has been vocal about their intention to bring the show back on TV ever since it was officially scrapped by CBS several weeks ago, and fans’ own investigations prove that another NCIS spinoff is to blame for NCIS: Hawai’i’s unenviable fate.

Even apart from the fact that the upcoming show has completely ruined its fellow series, many fans agree that nobody needs this new spinoff anyway.

Even before getting an official release date, the NCIS spinoff titled NCIS: Origins isn’t as anticipated as its creators would like it to be. The show is already accused of being an unnecessary extension that not only will bring zero useful information about its main character, young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, but also seems to be a real killer of NCIS: Hawai’i, the show that actually was something new and compelling for fans throughout its 3 seasons.

A thread started on Reddit about a month ago seems to combine a whole myriad of reasons why NCIS: Origins should never have happened. The whole discussion was kicked off by a posted comment suggesting that NCIS fans are quite aware of Gibbs’ life story and its ups and downs, as it was covered by the original show during all 19 seasons that Gibbs appeared in.

The user stressed that the upcoming series is very unlikely to add anything really valuable to the character’s already vastly known story and, what’s even more frustrating, “it came at the expense of another NCIS series that is well liked and doing pretty well in the ratings.”

Other users were quick to reply to the comment with most saying they couldn’t agree more. One of the fans that joined the discussion stated that at this point many viewers have already been done with Gibbs for a long time as he “was kind of…for lack of a better term, two dimensional. Everything that could be done with him was. He was way too technophobic and lacked having stuff that let him flourish like the others” while also claiming that “NCIS Hawaii was far more important.”

Given that this particular comment received quite a lot of upvotes, many other NCIS lovers seem to be on the same page with the user.

NCIS: Origins, accompanied by its original show’s season 22, will arrive on CBS this fall.
