Fans Suspect Star Wars Will Recast This Fan-Favorite Character
Is Star Wars Trying to Pull a No-Way-Home Stunt With Admiral Thrawn?
If you are a fan of Admiral Thrawn, there might be some bad news for you.
Following the recent news that the Ahsoka TV series will be released even earlier than expected, with the show's release window pushed back to late summer 2023, fans are eager to see the titular Jedi Knight hunt down the infamous Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The character first appeared in the Star Wars Legends canon and quickly earned the love of fans for his sophisticated nature and tactical genius.
He later returned to the new Star Wars canon in the third season of the 3D animated television series Star Wars Rebels, serving as the show's antagonist until its final season.
Voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, Thrawn retained most of his original characteristics, much to the delight of fans. After being dragged to the farthest reaches of the galaxy thanks to the efforts of the show's protagonist, Ezra Bridger, his ultimate fate remained unclear.
However, in episode 5 of The Mandalorian season 2, Ahsoka, now portrayed by Rosario Dawson, learned of his whereabouts after her confrontation with the magistrate.
The actress later confirmed that the Ahsoka TV series would focus on tracking down the Grand Admiral, which immediately sparked theories among fans that Lars Mikkelsen would reprise his role in the live-action series.
After all, the character of Bo-Katan Kryze, portrayed by Katee Sackhoff in both the animated and live-action series, has already received similar treatment.
Unfortunately, in a recent interview with StreamingGuide, Lars revealed that Lucasfilm had not approached him about reprising his role in live-action.
When asked about the rumors, he said: "Well, I've heard that, but I haven't heard anything about it yet. Then they should have approached me, but they haven't. So it must be someone else, unfortunately."
Still, the actor admitted he is open to the idea of playing the Grand Admiral again, saying: "That could have been fun."
However, there is still a slim chance for fans to see their favorite actor in the upcoming series, as Rosario Dawson publicly celebrated the rumors of Lars joining the cast of the TV show.
Maybe all this denial is just a publicity stunt, similar to how Andrew Garfield denied his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which turned out to be false, making fans ecstatic when they finally saw him on screen.
