Fans Seem to Be Crossing the Line With All This Bailey Hate in The Rookie
Some people are not getting it.
After a new show is released, it’s only a matter of time before you find someone in it to hate. And it’s only natural! Even the protagonists of the show are getting fan hate, and the reasons for that can be absolutely different and sometimes even ridiculous.
It’s one thing to hate a character because he is in the wrong, being a bad person and wreaking havoc in the series. But it’s the whole other story when a character is hated for the actor or for lazy writing. And it seems to be the case with The Rookie ’s Bailey Nune.
Now a few words about The Rookie, if you forgot or never knew. The show premiered in 2019 and is on its season 6 now. It follows a 40-year-old man who always had a dream of becoming a police officer, so now after a life-changing experience he is finally pursuing his dream of joining LAPD.
Many things happened during the show’s run, many characters have come and gone, but it seems that the only character that gathered so much hate in the entire series is the aforementioned Bailey Nune.
Jenna Dewan joined the cast of The Rookie as Bailey in season 4 and immediately started annoying everyone. The main reason for that — she’s a Mary Sue! It seems like the writers intentionally made her unbearable, adding so much to her backstory and turning her into a running joke.
“She’s the one character that fills in every role, and it just doesn’t feel right. No way that one person who was serving in the military, currently in the infantry reserve, actively a firefighter, was married to some psychopath, whilst conveniently the love interest of a main character,” Redditor UnfairerThree2 said.
Another part of the series’ fans hate the character because of the actress. They say they don’t feel the chemistry between her and Nathan Fillion, and want her gone desperately.
Well, we say everyone deserves a chance, even an annoying Mary Sue, so maybe the writers will find a way to make her actually more likable? In the meantime, you can binge The Rookie from the beginning on Hulu.
