Fans Say The Fall Guy’s “Extremely F—ing Lame” Joke Ruined It All
A scandal-coded line turned into, well, a scandal.
Summary:
- Ryan Gosling ’s brand new action comedy The Fall Guy is getting close to its release in cinemas worldwide with a promising start full of critics’ praise.
- Though the movie is seemingly having everything under control, one particular line in it is what makes the first viewers tear The Fall Guy apart.
- A short joke that stirs up the whole fuss has a clear reference to a scandalous trial.
Getting ready to hit the cinemas pretty soon, David Leitch’s The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt is kicking it off on a good note. Though the movie is still a week away from its official theatrical release, the first reviews are generally promising and The Fall Guy can even boast of a solid 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite all the stars aligning for the film’s success, not everything in the upcoming comedy is that funny — and one single joke currently makes the first viewers crash the entire movie.
The scene that makes everyone rage about it shows Game of Thrones and Ted Lasso ’s star Hannah Waddingham walking into a trailer that looks extremely messy — apparently, after some kind of fight that happened in there.
Glancing the entire room over, Waddingham’s character notes “It's like Amber and Johnny were just in here.” The phrase comes as a clear reference to Amber Heard and Johnny Depp ’s scandalous trial that took place a couple of years ago and unveiled all of both sides’ allegations about domestic violence and defamation.
Though The Fall Guy’s line about the scandalous ex-couple is obviously not the first ever reference to Heard and Depp in pop culture, the brand new movie is getting all the heat right now.
Some of the first viewers quickly took it to X to state that The Fall Guy was disturbing right after the “extremely f—ing lame” joke proving that there’s a disgusting tendency for inserting domestic violence jokes into modern comedies.
Other users then noted that the line should be a shame for everyone involved and there’s no actual benefit from such a joke whatsoever.
Though the movie’s reputation is drifting somewhere in between critical praise and the audience’s outrage, The Fall Guy doesn’t seem to be doomed to total disappointment.
We’ll get to see where things will officially stand on May 3.
