Fans Rave About Potential Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot
A Freddy Krueger revival could be in the best possible hands, according to fans.
Mike Flanagan, the author of many horror films and TV series, is deservedly a favorite of horror fans.
His works such as Doctor Sleep, Oculus, Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor have received recognition among many viewers.
So it's no wonder that when he hinted that he wanted to create his own project inspired by the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, the fans were very (very!) supportive:
"I love this idea. Nightmare (1 and 3) are my favorite classic horror movies and Flanagan makes the best horror movies and shows of the last decade in my opinion. I hope he finds out who has the rights," Reddit user Helpful-Substance685 said.
The most recent film in the franchise was a 2010 reboot starring Rooney Mara and Kyle Gallner.
This movie didn't receive a lot of positive reviews, with the main complaints being that the reboot didn't bring anything new to the audience and that the humor was an order of magnitude lower than in the original films.
Fans of the horror classic had already lost hope for a worthy revival of Freddy Krueger, but Flanagan has given them hope.
Flanagan's talk about wanting to make the reboot has been going on for some time already.
"One of the ones that has been on my list forever is Nightmare on Elm Street. Boy, that would be fun. I have a whole take for it that I worked out a couple of years ago. And my understanding is the rights situation for that title is so fraught, no one knows who controls it really. No one knows who to pitch," he told Script Apart in an interview.
The original Nightmare on Elm Street is almost forty years old. It's rightfully considered a classic of horror films and fans agree that Mike Flanagan is up to the task of creating a worthy reimagining of the Freddy Krueger films.
