Fans prefer to treat the Teen Wolf revival as a "what if" scenario and the show's finale as the true conclusion of the story.

The original Teen Wolf ran for six years and 100 episodes before it ended in 2017, leaving loyal fans with a sense of anticipation for future projects. Unfortunately, their anticipation was met with dismay when it was announced that the long-awaited revival would be released without several beloved characters. Now that the film has been released, frustration and disappointment dominate the reactions of longtime fans.

First of all, almost all fans felt it was strange to even think of making the movie without Dylan O'Brien's Stiles, who was arguably the show's most important character.

Kira and Malia: A Pairing Teen Wolf So Shamelessly Wasted

O'Brien reportedly opted out of the project because he felt his character's arc had been satisfactorily concluded. The film explained Stiles' absence by claiming that his love interest, Lydia, broke off their relationship to protect Stiles from a premonition involving a fatal car accident, much to the dismay of many fans.

"I have various reasons to say "the Movie is not canon for me", one of them is the Stydia break up," one of the fans commented on Reddit.

Besides Stydia, there was another pairing that was ruined for the sake of the movie's plot twist. Scott and Malia, who ended up together in the series, broke up so that Scott could rekindle his relationship with the resurrected Allison, who originally died in season 3 of the series.

"I hate that we got force-fed Scallion," one of the fans complained. "Like undoing years of character building to be like 'Scott is unfulfilled in life bc he's lonely and he still loves a girl he dated for half a school year when he was 16.'"

Besides screwing up beloved pairings, there were other things that made fans' blood boil. Derek Hale's unnecessary sacrifice, Mr. Harris as a completely random villain, weird werewolf design and sound, cartoonish swearing, unconvincing twists, and plot holes all led fans to take to social media and demand that the movie be ruled non-canon. They even created online polls in which the majority agreed that the story of the Teen Wolf universe ended with the show. As one of the fans wrote, summing up the general consensus:

"Personally, I don't think it's canon, as it disregards a lot of lore already put in place."
