Fans Divided Over 'Percy Jackson' Trio Casting

Shortly after Disney Plus cast Walker Scobell for the role of Percy Jackson in the upcoming original TV series based on Rick Riordan's books, the network revealed the actors set to play Percy's closest friends: Annabeth and Grover.

Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, will be portrayed by Leah Sava Jeffries, with satyr Grover Underwood will be played by Aryan Simhadri.

New actors are just as age-appropriate as Scobell, but Percy Jackson fans are way too familiar with miscasting disappointment – and it looks like some of them are experiencing it once again.

Given that both Annabeth and Grover are going to be played by actors of color, many fans that disliked the cast have already been labeled racist. But there seems to be another issue here – just like in the movie back in the 2010s, the cast doesn't match the book description all that well.

However, a lot of people – including Percy Jackson long-time fans – seem to be perfectly fine with the cast.

There is also one important opinion about the cast – that of Rick Riordan himself, who earlier argued that casting a right actor was never about any physical characteristic like eye color, hair color or skin color.

Still, at least they are not in their 20s, right? Back in the times when the movies were in the making, people pointed at the fact that the characters' age was actually important for the story, because Percy had to make his decisions by the time he was 16… while in the movie, he looked like way over 16 even in the first part, titled 'Lightning Thief'.

'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' does not have a release date yet, as it is still in early development.
