There is a list of options that can probably turn you into a true villain: unhappy childhood, psychotic parents, tricky love life, challenged pregnancy and so on…

But what if one person just got it all? Like Esme from General Hospital.

Fans are giving Esme a hard time on the Internet, claiming the character is dangerously close to being pure psychotic evil. And frankly, they are not being unreasonable.

It's not that hard to point out horrific things she did during the series. Manipulation, identity theft, stalking, framing, porn distribution… and the list goes on.

But still, there are people that say that Esme herself was manipulated enough to become the person she is now.

Most of the things she did was to just get some attention from her biological father Ryan Chamberlain… who by the way was a serial killer.

''I honestly don't know how to feel about Esme at this point. She was clearly manipulated by Ryan. She has done a lot of bad stuff because she was trying to win Ryan's affection. Like who was Esme before she met Ryan?'' Reddit user raceyevans said.

However, what disturbed the fans was the idea of giving Esme a break because of her memory loss.

The question is only fair: why should the fact that Esme does not remember being a bad person clean up her aura?

Still, some other fans are also not rushing into judgment and even appreciate the complexity of Esme's character.

"There's no denying Esme has done bad things but she's not for lack of company in PC.

Her being held captive, arrested, and being hated by the entire town there by actually facing consequences for her actions allows her the possibility to grow and be redeemed unlike many of the towns other hypocrite felons," Reddit user JustWantPokemonZ said.

Psychopath or not, Esme really earned her spot in fans' minds. Some may hate her, some may feel for her, but hardly anyone is going to deny her character growth.
