Fans Are Ready to Give NCIS: Origins a Chance on Only One Condition
Not everything should be about Gibbs after all.
NCIS fans are definitely having some concerns regarding the franchise’s future as many of them have been quite vocal about recent, and pretty much disappointing, decisions that are currently transforming the entire NCIS universe.
Several weeks ago, the franchise officially lost one of its most successful spinoffs NCIS: Hawai’i, but its attempts to make it up to the scrapped show by launching two more series doesn’t really seem to be working.
Regardless of whether fans are excited about it or not, NCIS is getting a replacement for NCIS: Hawai’i by giving a whole new show to the universe’s biggest figure Leroy Jethro Gibbs, something the longtime lovers of the franchise have already lamented over.
Now that there’s no way for NCIS: Hawai’i to be back and Gibbs’ spinoff titled NCIS: Origins is already on its way, fans are determined to consider the upcoming show for watching only if one specific condition is met.
On Reddit, a thread dedicated entirely to fans’ reflections about NCIS: Origins was created around a month ago by a user who stated that another spinoff recounting Gibbs’ early life in NCIS wasn’t actually needed at all.
Many others got involved in the heated discussion, saying that they couldn’t agree more as the franchise’s original show had already given so many details about all aspects of Gibbs’ life throughout the 19 seasons that the character had appeared in.
Given that now there’s no way back and NCIS: Origins is happening anyway, fans seem to be quite reassured that they won’t even give it a shot when the series is released, but one comment pondering over a very different aspect eventually got a lot of attention and upvotes.
According to it, everyone indeed already had enough of Gibbs’ story, and NCIS: Hawai’i was a much more compelling and important show that got canceled for literally nothing, but there’s still a chance for NCIS: Origins to get more attention from those who are now having doubts. As the user put it, “if Origins doesn’t solely focus on Gibbs, but provides prequels to all the characters, including Vance, Ducky, DiNozzo, and even Shepard or others, it might have some merit.”
In other words, NCIS: Origins has to go further than just sticking to the main character’s storyline to keep fans from getting bored right after the first episode. Meanwhile, some more of the original characters' stories intertwined with Gibbs’ one may in fact give the upcoming show a very refreshing perspective.
NCIS: Origins is set to arrive at CBS this fall.
