Upcoming killer dramedy leans into its lead star’s most unhinged on-screen tendencies.

Ella Purnell is by no means a new name in Hollywood. Previously known for her roles in Yellowjackets and Army of the Dead, Purnell rose to her peak prominence after playing the lead part in Prime Video ’s Fallout TV show.

Now, the actress has one too many offers to choose from, and she’s already signed up for several new and wildly different projects. Recently, she joined a killer dramedy, for instance!

Ella Purnell Can’t Catch a Break

After captivating the audience in Fallout, Purnell’s been as busy as it gets. She’s working on comedy horror The Scurry, action horror Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, and keeps her voice-acting gig as Jinx in Arcane: League of Legends. Meanwhile, another TV show, a dramedy titled Sweetpea, was added to her To-Do list.

In Sweetpea, Ella Purnell booked yet another lead role for her portfolio: she will portray Rhiannon, a quiet wallflower girl who’s been overlooked and stepped over her entire life. Once she snaps and “develops a vengeful and intoxicatingly liberating taste for murder,” she becomes a different person. But will she be able to “play” her former self to avoid suspicion as she goes on a rampage?.. We’ll soon find out.

Sweetpea Looks Promising So Far

Even apart from lead star Ella Purnell, the cast and crew of Sweetpea appears promising. The series will be directed by Back to Life’s Ella Jones and penned by Pure’s Kirstie Swaim, while the supporting cast already includes alums from heavy-hitters like Bridgerton, Ted Lasso, Sense8, and Foundation. Purnell herself will also act as an executive producer for the show.

Based on C.J. Skuse’s novel of the same name, Sweetpea is expected to premiere later in 2024. The upcoming series has already been picked up by Starz in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK; other hosting platforms, if any, remain unknown so far.

For Ella Purnell, the killer dramedy can become another major step forward, solidifying her already prominent position in the industry. Between voice-acting in the biggest animated shows, starring in iconic movies, and joining big-name TV shows, she’s clearly making her way up the ladder, becoming a household name.
