Everything You Need to Remember About Daryl Before Watching TWD: Daryl Dixon
How did the loner with a crossbow become The Walking Dead's most beloved character?
The new spinoff of The Walking Dead, TWD: Daryl Dixon, has finally dropped its first episode, and it’s definitely worth watching, even if you haven't followed the show for a while.
If you haven't caught the first episode yet, here are some things you might want to remember about Daryl before you start watching the spinoff.
Daryl Dixon was originally introduced as a hot-headed loner with a knack for hunting and a fierce loyalty to his problematic brother, Merle. But Daryl's journey was one of the best, if not the best, transformations in the show.
Growing up in rural Georgia, Daryl and Merle faced a tough childhood, marked by poverty and an abusive father.
Rick Grimes played a big role in Daryl's transformation. It all started when they teamed up to rescue Merle from that rooftop. Over time, Daryl went from being an outsider to Rick's right-hand man.
Daryl's path had its share of tough moments. Losing Sophia, Carol's daughter, was a real gut punch for him. And the short-lived reunion with Merle, followed by losing him again, was yet another painful experience.
And let's not forget about Negan. Daryl getting nabbed and put through the wringer by the Saviors was a seriously grim time, but it also highlighted just how tough and determined he is.
Throughout the series, Daryl's relationships have been central to his character development. His bond with Carol, another survivor with a traumatic past, has been one of the show's most enduring partnerships.
Or Lydia, the daughter of the Whisperers' leader, Alpha. In Lydia, Daryl saw a reflection of his younger self, leading him to become a protective figure in her life.
But perhaps the most significant moment for Daryl was the supposed death of Rick. Believing he lost another brother, Daryl spent years searching for any sign of Rick's survival. And now, as we have finally approached his spin-off, Daryl's quest continues.
Daryl has come a long way from a rough-around-the-edges hunter to a leader and protector. And as Judith Grimes said to him, Daryl deserves a happy ending too, and we are hoping that he finally meets Rick and other people who have become his family.
