Everything to Know About Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes Replacement
He has a history with Ritchie as well.
Every time a popular franchise is revived, people tend to wonder if it was ever necessary. In the world of crime dramas, there's no source more popular than Agatha Christie's novels or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. No matter how many times these stories have been told, every producer and director wants to put their own spin on them.
Guy Ritchie tried his hand at Sherlock Holmes in 2009 and 2011, releasing two films, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, starring Robert Downey Jr. Both movies got decent reviews and a lot of happy viewers, but that wasn't enough. Now Ritchie is back with another project and another Sherlock.
Who Will Be the New Sherlock Holmes?
While the world is still wondering who will be lucky enough to play James Bond, it's not the burning question we should be asking. After the success of Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch 's Sherlocks, it's time to add a new name to that list. Guy Ritchie's new series Young Sherlock will star Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
Born and raised in London, the actor comes from an industry family, being the son of director Martha Fiennes and cinematographer George Tiffin. In 2008, the young actor made his first on-screen appearance in the drama film Bigga as Ben. Shortly thereafter, he landed the role of young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Since the adult Voldemort was portrayed by another famous relative of the boy, his uncle Ralph Fiennes, the film's director David Yates dispelled all rumors of nepotism. The success that the actor has become only proves his acting talents. In 2019, Fiennes Tiffin was cast in the film After, which later had 4 sequels.
His first acquaintance with Guy Ritchie happened on the set of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, where the actor played Henry Hayes. And now that he has the role of young Sherlock under his belt, they will have to work together on the 8 episodes of the Prime Video miniseries of the same name.
Unfortunately, there is no information on when viewers can expect the new Prime Video show to be released. So if you love Sherlock Holmes and are ready to give another iteration of the iconic character a chance, keep an eye out for any news or behind-the-scenes updates.
