Season 14 will be out soon, but fans aren't really looking forward to the next season after that.

Summary

  • With the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on Blue Bloods Season 14 is in the active phase.
  • It is not yet known if this will be the last season or if Season 15 will follow.
  • However, fans are convinced that 15 seasons will be enough for the show.

Blue Bloods, one of the longest-running police procedurals and television series in general, continues to delight its fans with the incredible dedication of the cast and crew. Not only is it an amazing family drama, but the close-knit atmosphere between the people behind Blue Bloods is also felt in real life: for example, the actors, who truly love the show, agreed to take a pay cut. All so that Season 14 could see the light of day!

And now that the nearly four-month-long WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are over (or until the latter finally ratifies the contract with the AMPTP), production on the new season seems to be in full swing. But despite the cast and crew's love for the show, even despite the fans' love for it, the latter are beginning to feel fatigue and wish for a quicker end to the series, if possible. According to the sentiments expressed by the viewers, the quality of the series has deteriorated significantly and it is time to end the story, at least with Season 15.

Fans Hope Season 15 Will Be the Last

'I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren't a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged. If the show were to go away without [the audience] having a proper sendoff… I think they would be mortified,' Donnie Wahlberg told People.

But while Season 14 is driven by the enthusiasm of the fans and the cast, Season 15 may not happen at all, or may even be a wrap-up. After all, it seems that viewers want this story to end sooner rather than later.

For example, some have expressed the opinion that Frank is long overdue: even though he is the main magnet to the show, there has been no character development for him for quite some time. Yes, he still has ethical debates about police methods and conflicts with the authorities (especially the mayor), but that's what the show has always been about. The character could still attend family dinners, but maybe it's time to give him a break.

The same goes for Henry. According to the story, the former Commish is a 95 years old, but Len Cariou, who played him, is actually 84. Maybe they shouldn't stretch his story any further.

The same goes for the other characters. Yes, let Season 14 be devoted to wrapping up existing arcs, but let Season 15 be the last. It's unlikely that the writers will be able to provide anything incredibly intriguing in Erin's career, and it's unlikely that Danny's aggressive nature will change. Fans have taken special note of Eddie, whose role as a tough cop was significantly diminished last season.

Meanwhile, We'll Have to Wait for Season 14

The time for speculation, rumors, and futile analysis is over, as CBS has finally announced the return of the beloved police procedural! According to the network, filming on the fourteenth season of Blue Bloods is in full swing and the series will begin airing on February 16th, as always on Friday nights at 10pm ET.

While many fans were willing to wait a while longer for the cast and crew to deliver a quality season with excellent and well-crafted storylines, CBS was not happy with the long loss of one of its flagship series. So the new season will be released as a midseason replacement. A side effect was that the season had to be reduced from the usual 20-22 episodes to only 10-13 (the exact number will be known later) in order to meet the deadlines. Luckily, with the Super Bowl coming up on February 11, we can expect tons of exciting promos!
