Five times TWD characters surprised us with a comeback on the original show or a spinoff.

If you're a fan of The Walking Dead, you know that the show can be pretty brutal when it comes to killing off characters. But sometimes, just when you think a character is gone for good, they make a surprising return. Here are the characters who departed the show, but eventually made their way back.

Merle Dixon

Portrayed by the talented Michael Rooker, Merle was one of the show's most memorable bad guys. He disappeared in the very first season, but the show left some room for him to return. He surprised us with his return in season 3 but in the same season he was killed by The Governor.

Dwight

Dwight, played by Austin Amelio, was one of Negan's top lieutenants, but he eventually turned against him and joined Rick's group to take Negan down. After disappearing for a while, he returned in season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead.

Sherry

Sherry was Dwight's wife. She escaped Negan’s Sanctuary and after that, disappeared leaving her husband behind. However, she left a note for Dwight which motivated his search. That’s how they finally met in Fear the Walking Dead.

Morales

Morales was one of the original members of Rick's group, but he left the group with his family in season one. He wasn't seen again until season eight, when he made a surprise return. We found out that his family died, and he turned out to be a member of the Saviors. His return was short-lived, as he was killed soon after by Daryl.

Morgan Jones

Morgan is the absolute king of comebacks. He first appeared in season one as the first man who Rick meets after the apocalypse began. They left each other on a good note.

We haven’t heard from Morgan for several seasons until season 3, where he completely went off the rails after losing his son. He again disappeared after that and returned in season 5. He later became a series regular in season 6 until he was sent to the spinoff, Fear The Walking Dead.
