Even SVU Star Feels Sorry For Bensler Fans After That Promo Disaster
Danielle Moné Truitt hopes that one day Benson and Stabler will be together.
After NBC's emotionally charged promo for SVU and Organized Crime crossover, fans couldn't help but feel let down and disappointed when the highly anticipated episode actually aired. Despite Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni's sincere and brilliant performances in their brief reunion scene, the episode failed to live up to the hype generated by the promo, which teased a possible kiss between Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler. Let's just say the kiss didn't happen.
In light of the viewers' disappointment, Organized Crime star Danielle Moné Truitt, known for her role as NYPD Sergeant Ayanna Bell, sympathized with those who rooted for the tumultuous duo for years.
Speaking to People, Truitt admitted that NBC had once again pulled the rug out from under the fans when it came to the relationship between Benson and Stabler, aka Bensler. The actress expressed a deep understanding of the fans' pain, which was exacerbated by the fact that the only thing standing in the way of the Bensler romance now seems to be their inner insecurities. When Benson tried to kiss Stabler in the episode, she pushed him away, explaining that she was not ready to take the next step.
"I don't know! Sometimes I feel sorry for the shippers because I'm, like, I don't know if they're taking you guys on a ride or what," Truitt said.
The actress also added a few words of encouragement to fans who are still hoping that the Bensler relationship will one day move beyond friendship.
"For y'all's sake, I hope something happens with them. I think they tricked you guys last week. Hopefully one day," she added.
These words certainly reflect the hopes and enthusiasm of those who have been shipping Bensler for more than 22 years, since 1999 when SVU first aired. But despite the growing anticipation for the iconic duo, one can only speculate if Benson will ever be ready to enter into a romantic relationship with Stabler.
It's unclear if SVU and Organized Crime see Bensler the same way, since their perspectives are different. Creating a romance with that in mind could be difficult. But now that the "almost kiss" crossover scene has become a huge disappointment, the writers really need to find a believable story that the fans will embrace.
