The key question is, do we want it to end at all?

It is not uncommon for show creators and showrunners to know exactly how a show will end, especially when the stakes are high and there is some sort of plot that needs to be wrapped up.

Some are so sure that they are willing to take the risk and film the ending in advance, as happened with How I Met Your Mother.

But is that possible when you're talking about a procedural drama with more characters and possible relationships between them than you can imagine?

Is it possible for a show that has been on the air for 19 years and is now celebrating its 20th anniversary? Is it possible for Grey's Anatomy?

At one point, Shonda Rhimes claims, it was. Today, the best the entire creative team can do is think about the next step.

The producer shared her thoughts on Grey's Anatomy's potential ending in an interview with ET:

"I knew how that story will end when we were in season 6, in season 7 and maybe season 10, and after that I just gave up because I would write those endings and the show just kept going. I'll have a feeling the same way I knew Scandal [was going to end]. I'll have a feeling of like, 'We've done what we needed to do here.'"

While Rhimes' description of the creative process is rather vague, it's easy to see where she's coming from.

Even the most loyal fans probably couldn't come up with a complete ending for the show right now. Besides, it doesn't seem like Grey's Anatomy needs one.

With Ellen Pompeo stepping out of the spotlight and Grey's Anatomy heading for a complete reboot with a new showrunner, new characters and a new focus, viewers are ready to see the show they may not want to end so soon.

At the moment there is not much official news about the comeback of Grey's Anatomy Season 20.

All that has been confirmed is that the show, along with many other ABC dramas, will be pushed to midseason due to the writers' strike.

Keep an eye out for more updates!
