The series had so much potential.

One of the biggest American networks, ABC, has made the fans of yet another show a little bit unhappy. Despite the fact that viewers claim they aren't surprised every time the network cancels another show, they were still hoping that their beloved Alaskan show wouldn't suffer the same fate.

However, in May it was announced that Alaska Daily, Tom McCarthy's drama starring Hilary Swank, would not be renewed for a second season. The reason is simple: the show did not get the ratings the network was hoping for. But that doesn't mean the show didn't have a huge following who loved it.

What Is Alaska Daily About?

At the center of the story is Hilary Swank's character, Eileen Fitzgerald. She is an extremely talented, award-winning journalist from New York who, after a fall from grace, has decided to leave her life behind and move to Alaska with a desire to change her life.

So she joins the daily metro newspaper in Anchorage and begins her new journey. As a local reporter, she starts her career by investigating an unsolved case of missing indigenous women with very few details. And it seems that Eileen and her fierce approach is just what was needed to finally crack the case.

As the story unfolds, however, it becomes clear that the city is a dark and seedy place that becomes dangerous for Eileen as she begins to uncover the many secrets it holds.

Fans of the series mention Swank's extraordinary performance, but it's just something that comes with the name: the two-time Oscar-winning actress was just as perfect on the small screen as she was in her movies.

But what fans of the show liked most was the accuracy with which the show's writers portrayed the reality of local journalism.

“I love it because it knows exactly how analytics look on a TV monitor. I love it because it knows exactly how a reporter’s desk looks. I love it because of the editor’s tired lament about covering a state twice the size of Texas with a staff of 25. Mostly I love it because it halts the entire show to have Hillary Swank make an obvious editorial about how important local news is that had me cheering,” Redditor Guevera said.

Yet, despite the fans' love for the important subject of the real-life problem of Native women’s murders and the amazing portrayal of how journalistic investigations follow, the show didn't last. But you can buy it on Prime Video or Apple TV+ and enjoy the amazing season 1.
