Even OG Fans Believe Grey's Anatomy Should Finally Pull the Plug
It's hard to believe, but Grey's Anatomy started almost 20 years ago. And it seems that fans are already tired of the long-running medical drama.
Grey's Anatomy has received high ratings and great reviews over the years.
With executive producer Shonda Rhimes' innovation and deep dive into the character, the show revolutionized television in some ways.
Many credit Shonda with introducing a "new generation" of role models to television – strong, independent, self-aware and self-empowered women who can not only love, but also be friends.
However, it seems that even a show as acclaimed as Grey's Anatomy cannot bear the burden of nineteen seasons.
Most fans agree that with each new season, the show becomes more and more like a soap opera, where the characters act illogically and the plot lacks coherence.
"I feel like the characters are written by multiple writers and it's like a jump ball episode to episode. There doesn't seem to be a continuity or a story that they really care to tell. It's just stringing along an audience and yes it is very much in the realm of soap operas," Reddit user Lulupeet20 said.
Most fans agree that the twelfth season was the peak of the show, and what happens after that will only leave you frustrated. And it is better to end watching with the twelfth season, so as not to spoil the impression of the cult series.
"The only reason I made it past season 12 was because I was up nights with my baby. If I didn't need something to keep me awake (but drowsy) I would have quit then. Besides a few good episodes here and there, the next 6 seasons were not worth it," Reddit user imsofie commented.
In addition, there are very few members of the original cast left in the series. For nearly twenty years, fans have watched the characters grow up, break up, have children, or simply disappear.
Given the many complaints from fans, perhaps the nineteenth season is the perfect time to end the beloved series before it becomes a relic of the past.
