They both did their best, and that’s what matters.

The topic of sibling rivalry is as old as the concept of family itself. Whenever you face a family with more than one kid, you can be sure there is some kind of competition going on, especially when it comes to fictional families on TV or in films.

Young Sheldon was never an exception, although many viewers feel like the decision on family favorites was made long before any of the kids were able to show their true colors. Among older Coopers, whether that is Mary, Meemaw, or even George, Sheldon was always the priority one.

Of course, partly that comes from him having some special needs. Catering to a child like that is hard in 2023, but back in the early ‘90s, it was even more of an impossible task to accomplish. It’s hard to blame Mary for coddling grown-up Sheldon a little more than Georgie or Missy, as all she truly wants is to protect her most vulnerable kid.

However, was that really helping Sheldon when it was time for him to step into his adulthood?

While catering to her son’s intellect, Mary seemed to constantly forget to teach him to take care of himself in more mundane ways. That made Sheldon extremely dependent on the people around him to survive the hardships of everyday life. Even those little routines that he did have, were very fragile and needed constant re-establishment.

Yes, Sheldon ended up getting a pretty great scientific career and even winning a Nobel Prize, but can you call that a true success, knowing that he would stop thriving the minute there’s no one around him to keep him going? Or did his brother Georgie, who was forced to learn to be independent and care not only for himself but for those near him, succeed more?

From coming from a quite neglectful childhood to ending up being a teen father, Georgie’s life wasn’t ever the easiest, but he was insistent on knowing what he wanted and moving in that direction. As we all know, his teenage dream of a happy family ends in divorce later in life, but his business is thriving, and he proves to be very self-sufficient.

Who do you think ends up being more successful?

If you want to take a peek into Georgie’s adulthood, you can stream The Big Bang Theory ’s The Sibling Realignment on Netflix or MAX.
