Not everyone's story should revolve around a forced love interest.

Stranger Things fans are now anxiously awaiting the release of season 5, eagerly absorbing any news they get from cast members, showrunners, or just the fan forums. And recently, one of the show’s stars shared her opinion on her character’s potential development in the show.

Actress Maya Hawke, who plays Robin in the series, shared her thoughts on whether or not her character should be in the middle of a love storyline. The thing is, there's a rumor that Robin will get a girlfriend in the new season.

When it was revealed in season 4 that her close friend Steve is actually gay, fans actually thought that those two can become a couple in the next season. As it was obvious that the two girls had some kind of chemistry.

But despite all the potential, the Robin actress has mixed feelings about this particular storyline.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, she shared her current thoughts on the matter.

“I feel that it’s both a great thing, but I also love characters where their love life is not the center of their existence. That friendship with Steve is so special. And friendships have been carrying me through my life. I think they’re really important and they deserve their airtime,” she said.

Actually, many fans agreed with her. They also think that not enough stories on our TV are focused on friendship, but rather emphasize on romantic and sexual relationships. Although some fans are sure that if it is done right – the love line can still work for Robin's character.

“Robin is a special character. She means a lot to many who feel underrepresented in the media, whether they be queer, neurodivergent, or both. A love story would be nice; I just don't want the writers to rush it. Robin is important as representation, but she shouldn't be a checklist character. She needs to grow in a way that feels natural,” Redditor DorisDayandtheTime said.

Well, it probably doesn’t matter which way the story would develop. The main thing is that the show will still welcome positive LGBTQ+ representation.

Whatever route the story takes, Stranger Things season 5 needs to continue providing positive LGBTQ+ representation while still making Robin and Steve's friendship an important part of the series.
