What if Venom was a supernatural entity all along?

Sam Raimi is no stranger to the horror genre, having directed the cult classic Evil Dead. It seems even in his Spider-Man trilogy, he couldn't get over his love of all things creepy and supernatural.

In fact, one fan theory suggests that Raimi's portrayal of Venom in Spider-Man 3 was actually a demonic entity.

Redditor housepainterr made an interesting suggestion about the Webslinger's legendary nemesis. According to the theory, despite being an alien, Venom's nature had the trappings of an evil, supernatural force.

The black suit made Peter aggressive, broke his spirit, and caused him to behave in ways that the real Spider-Man would never interact with other people.

The author of the theory notes Venom possessed Parker like demons possess human souls, driving them to do terrible things. That's why the hero had to fight this evil specifically in the church.

The Redditor notes that the suit always possesses its victim. Something similar was even shown in the animated Spider-Man series. And in the movie, when Peter rescues Eddie from Venom's influence, the suit takes on a form of its own, as befits a demonic evil.

Also worth remembering is the scene where the antagonist lures Mary Jane. Demons are notorious for often taking on different guises in order to fool and capture their victims.

The moment when Eddie grabbed Peter's girlfriend, he went from human to alien in a matter of seconds. Tom Hardy 's Venom couldn't have done that, even though symbiotes had similar abilities.

The author of the theory cites several other pieces of evidence. Sam Raimi is known for his "demonic" hobbies.

Starting in the 80s with the B-movie trash horror Evil Dead, he brought a touch of madness to his next films. Another point of support is that Norman Osborne's Goblin was also possessed, not genetically altered.

Venom's physical appearance, horrific screams, and fighting skills are all indicators of his paranormal nature. That's why Spider-Man 3 is much scarier than the prequels.

Although many fans like the idea, they say that the church moment was taken directly from the comics, and the other Christian references are often found in Superman. It doesn't mean that the characters have direct encounters with the paranormal.

The interpretation of Venom as a demonic force adds a new layer of complexity and horror to the character. And it's a testament to Raimi's skill as a director that he was able to bring these elements to life on the big screen.
