Even Eva Longoria Doesn’t Believe In Desperate Housewives Reboot
Some shows are better left alone.
It's safe to say that Desperate Housewives was a hit ahead of its time, with many of the show's topics and events garnering as much negative attention as positive.
While it's hard to imagine the main cast getting back together for a sequel, thanks to all the juicy behind-the-scenes drama, fans, and the media continue to speculate about a possible reboot.
All the themes would still be more than relevant today, as suburban societies have not evolved much over time.
But Eva Longoria, who portrayed Gabrielle Solis in the iconic original series, doesn't believe in bringing Desperate Housewives back to life. Not because of irrelevance, but because of fear of cancellation.
The actress shared her thoughts in an interview with ET:
“I don't know if we could do the show today. I think we'd get canceled. I mean, not canceled on TV but like canceled in culture because it was so groundbreaking and we said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.”
Besides, as the actress admits, she doesn't think there's anything more to tell about these characters anyway.
They have already told all the stories they can, came up with all the craziest ideas and brought them to the audience to entertain them, so now is not the time to reboot just for the sake of rebooting.
Whether or not the fans would agree with this is questionable, as many people believe that reboots don't need to be very thoughtful, as they are usually done for the sake of pure nostalgia.
Many would like to see Susan Mayer, Lynette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp, and Gabrielle Solis come back together to wreak more havoc in their area.
Until that happens, you can watch and enjoy the original series. You can stream Desperate Housewives on Hulu, Disney Plus, or Amazon Prime Video.
