Regardless of the way it was received, the finale of Game of Thrones was always going to be the end of an era once the show reached such high levels of popularity and viewing figures.

But while fans had to wait until it aired on 19th May 2019, for the actors and crew involved in filming, their goodbyes came much earlier.

And for Emilia Clarke, just the thought of filming Daenerys' final moments on the show was enough to break her.

Speaking to the Press Association, the actor said that she spent "three hours aimlessly" walking around London after just reading the script for the final season of the show.

She said, "It might as well have been raining and I would've just walked in it not knowing what to do."

When it came to her last day on set, Clarke said that she felt "equal amounts of fear" as she had way back when she made her first appearance on the show.

And, as you might have already guessed judging by her reaction to reading the script, her last day saw "loads of tears".

And, she said, it was also the moment that she "realised that alcohol can also be a depressant" as she found herself "nursing a glass of wine" and wondering why it wasn't making her feel any happier.

It's perfectly natural for both fans and those involved in filming massive shows to feel a sense of loss when they are over.

And Clarke was not shy about stating that having Dany killed off after descending into madness was not the ending she would have wanted for her character who she says "has a part of my heart".

Even watching the show back two years after it ended, she told The Sunday Times that she would think "that was when [such and such] happened, which you didn't see on screen" as she described how she struggles to remove herself from Daenerys Targaryen and the show.

In fact, she's pretty sure she'll be in her 90s before she can "objectively see what [the show] was".

Despite her initial disappointment with the way the show ended, though, she is now at peace with it and looks back fondly on her time filming it.

And, of course, she's moved into other projects. She voiced Malicia in The Amazing Maurice, has a lead role in the TV show Secret Invasion which is due out later this year, and is both an actor and executive producer in the upcoming movie The Pod Generation.
