Dwayne Johnson Shades DCEU for Cavill's Superman Treatment
Hopes are now high for the DCEU to rise up from the ashes — but these ashes, according to the Rock, were the studio's own doing in some sense.
Early reviews for Black Adam have indicated that the movie can certainly be a new hope for the DCEU — not least due to a big reveal that the film has in the end, which is perhaps the worst kept secret ever.
Spoiler alert there — yes, it seems that Dwayne Johnson 's Black Adam movie will have Henry Cavill 's Superman finally return, after years of fans demanding the comeback. During his appearance on Jake's Takes on YouTube, the Rock also weighed in on how the DCEU has been treating the iconic superhero — and how that might change soon.
Reflecting on the need to "listen to the fans", Johnson diplomatically noted how "the most powerful and unstoppable force in the entire universe has been on the sidelines for too long".
Henry Cavill's Superman was left out of DCEU action for around five years. The last DCEU movie we saw Cavill in was Batman vs. Superman: The Dawn of Justice, although Cavill's superhero technically made a new appearance in 2021 when Zack Snyder's Justice League cut was released.
Huge Leak Details Black Adam's Post Credit Scene
However, the Rock was quick to offer some optimistic view for those who might have given up hope on the DCEU.
"There is a new era in the DC universe, and it begins now. The goal is — we want to continue to build out the DC universe, because there are so many places to go [...], new characters that are in the DC bible that haven't been introduced yet," Johnsons said, going on to recall Superman and how "we will create Black Adam for him to be the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet."
It's highly likely that Johnson has confirmed by his remarks that Cavill will return in many more other DCEU movies, not just in Black Adam's post-credit scene. The Rock also pondered what the future could hold for both Superman and Black Adam, even touching upon the prospect of a grand face-off between the two.
"I think Black Adam lands the first punch. Now, I don't know if Black Adam lands the last punch," Johnson said.
Reflecting on a possible death of his character on screen, Johnson noted that he "wouldn't like to see it right now, because there's a lot more storytelling that we need to tell, and we should tell, that I think will be very beneficial for the fans out there and generations to come."
"But one day, I'm open to that," the Rock added.
Black Adam will premiere in theatres on October 21.
