Dune Fans Think They Already Figured Out Anya Taylor-Joy's Character
Fans have long wondered if Alia Atreides was cut from the story, and now they have the missing piece of the puzzle.
Summary:
- Anya Taylor-Joy made an unexpected appearance at the Dune: Part Two red carpet event, confirming her presence in the movie
- However, the actress refused to elaborate on her role, saying that viewers will have to see the movie to find out
- But fans seem to have already solved this mystery, as all evidence points to her playing Alia Atreides
After much anticipation and several delays, Dune: Part Two finally had its world premiere with great fanfare in London on February 15, 2024.
Much to the surprise of fans, the event suddenly confirmed a rumor that had been circulating for some time that Anya Taylor-Joy, best known for The Witch (2015), The Menu (2022) and the TV series The Queen's Gambit, would also appear in the film.
During her red carpet appearance in Leicester Square, the actress declined to give any clues about her role in the sci-fi epic, saying only that fans would have to see the film for themselves to find out.
All Evidence Points to Her Portraying Alia Atreides
However, it seems that the mystery is actually very solvable for anyone familiar with the original novel by Frank Herbert, as many fans believe they already know which character Taylor-Joy portrayed.
Ever since it was confirmed that the second part of the Dune movie has been greenlit, more and more information about the upcoming project has been revealed to the public.
Eagle-eyed fans immediately noticed that any mention of Alia Atreides, the sister of Paul Atreides who spent the entire first film in her mother's womb, was suspiciously absent.
Fans Have Long Speculated Why Alia Isn't Mentioned Anywhere
This even led some to believe that Denis Villeneuve had decided to deviate from the source material and either eliminate Alia's storyline entirely or significantly reduce her presence in the movie, possibly by leaving her in an unborn state.
Some theories even suggested that she would communicate telepathically with her mother, Lady Jessica, and not even appear on screen in the flesh.
Now it seems that fans can rest easy for the moment, as considering that Alia was the only major female character that was kept hidden, everything points to her being the very mysterious role that Anya Taylor-Joy portrayed.
Another subtle clue that may further prove this claim is that the dress the actress wore for the event looks surprisingly like a white version of Alia's outfit from the 1984 Dune movie, in which she was portrayed by Alicia Witt.
Either way, fans will soon know the truth, as Dune: Part Two is set to premiere in the United States on March 1, 2024.
