Double-Edged Sword: Is Modern TV Too Good Looking?
Some fans have made some interesting observations about the current state of TV shows.
Have you ever watched a TV show and felt like all the actors looked like they were made in some kind of supermodel factory? Apparently a lot of viewers have, according to a recent discussion on Reddit.
This problem seems to affect the American series in particular, as a number of fans say that it has worsened their experience with the modern shows.
According to them, while the quality of writing in many shows has declined over the years, it is not the main problem.
And while movies are somewhat less affected by this, as a significant number of actors are not conventionally beautiful and still win the hearts of fans, the majority of TV actors look unreasonably attractive, so much so that it makes it difficult for some viewers to take the story seriously.
In fact, watching a story about an "average guy" played by a Hollywood superstar sometimes feels rather strange and breaks the narrative of the show.
Some of these fans even say that it only perpetuates unrealistic beauty standards, which may make some viewers feel unhappy.
But this is only one side of the coin, as others say that they watch the shows not to look at average or even ugly people, but to completely immerse themselves in the fantasy, to take a break from their everyday lives.
Oddly enough, as mentioned above, this is mostly true for US shows, with fans pointing to British series as an example where it is not so obvious.
So is there a solution? Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view), things are not going to change significantly, at least not in the near future.
And to be fair, as mentioned above, more and more non-stereotypically beautiful actors are finding their way into the spotlight and earning the love of millions of fans. So maybe everyone will just have to find shows to their liking.
