Don't Hate, Appreciate: 5 Underrated Supernatural Characters
These guys have been generally looked down upon by Supernatural fans, but what if we never saw their true worth this entre time?
We would never try and convince you to love someone who doesn't click with you, but some Supernatural characters may just grow on you after all these years. Here are five characters that you may not have appreciated enough.
Lisa
Yes, we get it, Supernatural fans do not universally love Lisa as Dean's potential girlfriend (probably because a large part of the fandom believes he should get a boyfriend…), but let's be real: this girl could have been it.
She was street-smart and practical, ready to do anything for Dean because she actually was in love. This alone was quite rare for Dean; however, for some reason he made the decision for Lisa and simply cut her off in season 6 when he stopped picking up her calls, even though she clearly cared about him and how the curse affected him.
Well, Dean, your loss. Being a broken hunter could have been so much easier if you had someone by your side who could totally accommodate.
Alastair
Alastair was one of the OG Supernatural villains who stuck around for several seasons and was, in fact, the perfect embodiment of a demon that fans wish Supernatural would stick with. Thanks to Christopher Heyerdahl's performance, Alastair turned out to be both charismatic and terrifying, so you could still be somewhat enchanted while realizing that you have a bad guy in front of you.
What fans particularly appreciate about Alastair is how well Heyerdahl and Jensen Ackles worked out together as an acting duo. Did you know that in Head of a Pin, Ackles actually trusted Heyerdahl enough to let him choke him?
Bela
If Lisa could have been a healthy choice for Dean, then anti-heroine Bela Talbot (who, despite being a series regular, only appeared in season 3) is just the opposite. Oh the toxic alliance these two could have formed! The two had a lot of natural chemistry, even though their relationship could have never brought anything good to either of them.
Still, despite the toxicity, Bela was a hot mess that fans wish would have stuck around for more than just one season. Many believe that she and the Winchesters could have had an interesting alliance because with Bela, you never know if you can fully trust her.
Metatron
There are villains in Supernatural who enjoy unconditional fan love, and there are… well, others. Metatron, the Scribe of God who is behind angels falling from the sky in season 8, has never really been a fan favorite. If anything, he is much like Supernatural's Dolores Umbridge, even though many fans argue that he was actually funny to watch. He even made God laugh twice!
Still, even the fans who just can't bring themselves to love Metatron do appreciate the work done by actor Curtis Armstrong. After all, it takes a lot of effort to get under one's skin like that!
Brunette Ruby
The one who made sure that Sam Winchester got further addicted to demon blood, brunette Ruby, portrayed by Jared Padalecki 's future wife Genevieve, is someone who fans think deserves a lot more appreciation that she gets.
Many people hate brunette Ruby for basically playing with Sam and pretending to be a friend in order to get him deeper into his addiction. However, Ruby defenders argue that at least the actress does not deserve the hate she got; mainly because she could have intentionally portrayed Ruby in such a way so that it would illustrate just how blind Sam was.
