Doctor Who Showrunner Teased Upcoming Episode 2 With Just Three Words
Can you guess a storyline in three words?
Russell T. Davies, often referred to as RTD, announced his return as showrunner for the BBC science fiction series last year to the excitement of many fans.
The beloved creator previously rebooted the show in 2005, and will now be returning to lead the production of the 60th-anniversary episode and future seasons. In Doctor Who Magazine #586, RTD shared some additional information about his comeback and even offered a brief preview of the second episode with a three-word teaser (via Bleeding Cool).
In March 2021, RTD met with Piers Wenger, the BBC's Director of Drama, and Charlotte Moore, the Chief Content Officer of the BBC, to discuss his return. This is when the plans for his comeback officially began. However, RTD has chosen to keep the details of the meeting private because things they discussed are yet to be developed, produced, and shown.
Disney Money Already Ruining Doctor Who
RTD shared that at first, he had doubts about returning to the show, but deep down he knew he was excited for another run. The writer had concerns about whether he could repeat his previous success, but ultimately, he decided to embrace the new TV landscape and the challenges that came with it, recognizing that his involvement was essential for the future of Doctor Who.
"There are times in life when you have to put modesty, insecurity, and doubt aside and know what you are capable of," RTD explained to the agreement of millions of fans.
While discussing one important upgrade that made his life much easier, the showrunner teased Episode 2. It was without a doubt an intentional hint.
RTD mentioned that in the past he never had his own office while working on the series from 2005 to 2010. Instead, he would attend meetings in other people's offices, and if they were unavailable, he would wait in corners, linger in hallways, or hang around staircases.
However, now RTD has his own office, and this made his work on the iconic series so much more enjoyable. Sitting in his new office, holding a script for Episode 2 in front of him, the writer revealed just three words from it, leaving fans excited and intrigued.
"It contains the words Liverpool, legions, and non-diegetic," he said.
What kind of plot could these words make up? Most likely, we'll have to wait till Autumn to find out.
