Doctor Who: 7 Classic Companions Who Need to Return ASAP, Ranked
Fans have lately been spoiled with cameo appearances from classic villains, companions, and even Doctors. Do we dare to dream about more?
Here are seven of the Doctor’s besties from his classic adventures that fans would love to see in the New Who.
7. Leela
This feisty yet intelligent savage traveled with the Fourth Doctor and ended up leaving him for Andred, deciding to live on Gallifrey. Leela is a complex character who is hardly one of the fan favorites, and yet she could make the most interesting return to Doctor Who, given a chance. Now that Gallifrey is unfrozen, maybe the Doctor can pay his old friend a visit?
6. Peri
Peri as a character may have started off for all the wrong reasons, but she went on to develop over the course of the seasons and become the fans’ darling. Her departure from the Doctor was pretty devastating – a king saved her from death and forced her to marry him. It’s high time for the Doctor to free poor Peri from a fate she never wanted!
5. Romana
This Time Lord (Lady?) conquered the viewers’ hearts in the 1970s and has never let them go since. The Doctor has finally found his intellectual and spiritual equal in his fellow Gallifreyan, and Romana’s story arc is still open to so many possibilities. We need her back for the 60th anniversary, stat!
4. Polly
Polly and Ben are the sweetest – many would argue that they are the original Ponds in the TARDIS. Unfortunately, Michael Craze, who played Ben, passed away in 1998, but it would be awesome to see Anneke Wills on her own. Last we heard, Polly and Ben were working in an orphanage in India, so it’d be easy for the Doctor to stumble upon his old companions.
3. Steven
A dreamy space pilot from the future who is always doing brave things… What more could fans really want from a companion? Steven is last seen leading a brand-new society that struggles to maintain peace. Is he still there? The audience wants to know, and Steven simply must come back!
2. Jamie
Jamie is one of the most beloved companions in all of Doctor Who’s 60-year run. He is an 18th-century Scottish piper who gets to travel with the Second Doctor. Being a perfect gentleman, Jamie has quickly gained a following among fans. Seeing as he returned to his own time in the end, it wouldn’t be hard to bring Jamie back for a cameo the next time the Doctor is in Scotland.
1. Susan
The Doctor’s own granddaughter is a fascinating character that needs to be explored further. At the time, Susan was the screamer of the fam, which made Carole Ann Ford despise her character. Still, times have changed, and if Susan is still living her cozy little life with David in the 22nd century, the Doctor may pop by to say hi at some point.
