Remember Wizards of Waverly Place and all the joy it brought us? Well, we could have had the spinoff of our dreams if not for one actor.

The latest episode of Wizards of Waverly Pod, a podcast hosted by former co-stars Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise, has just been released, and the tea has been spilled.

In the episode, Jennifer shares Disney ’s plans that never came to fruition. It turns out that right after Wizards of Waverly Place wrapped, the company may have wanted to continue milking the hugely successful show and proposed a spinoff.

The sequel was to center around Harper (Jennifer Stone’s character) and Alex (Selena Gomez’s character) living their best adult lives. Disney had even set up the premise in the original show by having Harper and Alex rent an apartment together!

Unfortunately, Selena reportedly didn’t want to do the spinoff at the time because she had other things going on and generally wanted to move on from the project. Jennifer herself only heard rumors about the series, which never saw the light of day, as no one pitched it to her, since Gomez allegedly refused to be involved.

Stone doesn’t hold a grudge because she also wanted to “explore other things” at the time. Although, she admits that the spinoff “would’ve been great” if they had gotten the chance to do it.

Imagine what the show could’ve been. If the cards had been dealt right, we would’ve basically gotten the adult version of Wizards of Waverly Place. The series could’ve followed Harper and Alex as they navigated their 20s – going to college, getting jobs, and still having all sorts of magical adventures.

Alex would still be with Mason because nothing else is acceptable. Maybe Harper would still be dating her high-school boyfriend Zeke too. All the Russos could pop up from time to time in cameo roles. Honestly, this spinoff would’ve kept the Disney Channel at its peak for a few more years!

It’s a shame we never got to see any of it. Well, 2023 is the year of reboots and revivals…
