Martin Scorsese 's The Wolf of Wall Street took DiCaprio's career to new heights. His no-holds-barred performance as one of the country's most cutthroat stockbrokers was amazing.
Jordan Belfort was the opposite of everything Leonardo DiCaprio was. However, the role was stellar despite that (or maybe because of that). The actor had no moral high ground when playing him. The film was an "exploration of greed," as DiCaprio stated during a 2014 interview, and it's true.
The film sometimes portrays the worse of what humanity has to offer. Drugs, greed, manipulation, abuse, and jealousy. Yet, the actors played the roles very well and were commended for their commitment to the characters. As a result of their work, the movie received widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike. However, the movie's creators, including DiCaprio himself, faced a number of controversies, including allegations of money laundering (ironic, isn't it?) and animal cruelty.
So one might ask, what did DiCaprio's parents think about the movie? Were they unfazed by their son's character? Were they supportive or vehemently against it? Well, the truth might be surprising.
The truth is that DiCaprio's parents were relatively ok with what went down. Just like the character, DiCaprio thought that he wouldn't have to answer to his parents for his roles, and they were fine with that. Irmelin Indenbirken and George DiCaprio were unbothered.
Leonardo went on to say that he was exposed to much more graphic and gratuitous content when reading comic books. His dad was a comic distributor, and Leonardo often accompanied him to events. He would sit in the station wagon and read comic books to pass the time.
They may have had a huge impact on the young man as he was inspired by what he saw. It can be stated that they prepared him for his eventual success. It does bring everything into perspective, doesn't it?
