Demon Slayer Deadliest Villain's Heartbreaking Past Will Change How You See Him Forever
Sometimes, it's even easier to feel sorry for a villain than it is for a protagonist.
There are many characters with difficult and even tragic fates in Demon Slayer. Tanjiro himself began his journey because of the murder of his family.
Sometimes, however, the pain is so great that the character breaks down and takes the path of evil in order to take revenge on their tormentors. Akaza is such an example.
Many fans agree that Akaza is the most representative of such fate in Demon Slayer. Akaza, who was once human named Hakuji, took care of his sick father for a long time.
To pay for medicine, he decided to rob pickpockets.
This could lead to beatings, but he continued to steal until his father hanged himself. In the letter he left behind, father said that he wanted Hakuji to live life to the fullest and that he didn't want to take medicine if it was bought with stolen money.
Because of the robbing, Hakuji was eventually banished from Edo, where he met Keizo, the owner of a dojo with no students.
Keizo decided to take Hakuji under his wing to care for Koyuki, Keizo's sick daughter, after her mother drowned. Hakuji took care of Koyuki until she recovered three years later.
He also trained as a student of Keizo.
Eventually, Hakuji asked Keizo to take over the duties of the dojo and become Koyuki's husband, and the teacher agreed. However, Koyuki and Keizo were poisoned by a neighbouring dojo.
Enraged, Hakuji went to a nearby dojo and killed everyone there with his bare hands.
This incident caught Muzan's attention, and that's when he turned Hakuji into a demon in an attempt to create the twelve most powerful demons.
One of Akaza's techniques has the appearance of a snowflake, as his fiancé's name contains the word snow, and she also wore snowflake-shaped hairpins.
Also, some of the other names of the techniques are related to fireworks, since as a human he promised Koyuki that they would watch fireworks together.
All of this shows how tragic the fate of a seemingly cruel villain was, and to some extent helps fans understand his motivations.
Only the antagonist who cannot be painted solely in black is truly intimidating. And Akaza is a bright representative of such villains.
