David Schwimmer's Messed Up Line Became The Most Iconic Friends Moment
Every man's nightmare came true with Ross Geller's "take thee Rachel" moment on Friends.
Friends gave us a lot of "iconics".
The characters' names have almost become common nouns, the hilarious moments are the jokes we tell each other, and the drama of the show is what we refer to when we tell our real-life friends something about our personal lives.
But one particular line from the series became the most iconic, and what makes it even more interesting – it wasn't even scripted!
We all remember the end of season 9, when the beautiful wedding of Ross and Emily was interrupted by Ross'... well, inaccuracy?
Standing in front of his bride he said the wrong name and signed his own death (or better to say divorce) warrant.
Turns out this moment wasn't planned by writers. In fact, they didn't even know how to end that scene.
"We never knew how it was going to end. We struggled with it, we couldn't figure it out. And then there was one time, at a taping, where David Schwimmer walked in the room. What he was supposed to say was 'I have the cab waiting downstairs Emily'. But he walked in and said 'I have the cab waiting, Rachel."
So this one time David Schwimmer botched a take inspired the show's most memorable episode.
The producers of Friends admit that the actor almost never made mistakes on set, so this time it just triggered something bigger to happen.
So the writers realized that this take was genius, and covered everything they wanted to cover.
This genuine mistake of his gave the writers an opportunity to end Ross and Emily's relationship with some real drama.
And also to give Green and Geller fans hope that they will end up together no matter what.
