Cynthia Nixon Reveals The Truth About Her 'Sex And The City' Character's Sexuality
The iconic HBO comedy recently returned with the series 'And Just Like That...', revealing some interesting details about our beloved characters.
The original series starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon was released in 1998, and the quartet of contemporary New Yorkers managed to get into the hearts of millions around the world. 'Sex and the City ' captured the zeitgeist of the late '90s and early '00s, allowing the creative team behind the camera to tackle a host of poignant topics ranging from sexuality to the current state of the American marriage institute. Nevertheless, many fans were truly shocked when 'And Just Like That...' revealed that Nixon's Miranda Hobbs was actually interested in same-sex relationships.
However, this didn't really surprise the actress herself, who spoke to Variety about her role in the hugely successful show, revealing that she always knew about Miranda's affection for other women.
"Even though she was only really interested in men, I think that Miranda had many other queer and frankly, lesbianic qualities about her. And I think for a lot of gay women, she... we didn't have a gay woman! But she was a stand-in for the gay women we didn't have," Nixon said.
However, fans do not really believe the actress, accusing her of changing character's personality for no apparent reason.
They argue that this is actually a retcon of the first order, remembering a scene in the original 'Sex and the City' series where Miranda adamantly denied being a lesbian after "trying it".
