Cuoco and Galecki Had the Worst Time on TBBT Set After Breakup (Because of Lorre)

As happens all the time in normal workplaces, some co-workers who work closely together on a project may start to find each other attractive. While this is not the most welcome scenario for any workplace, and the worst nightmare of any HR professional, these romances do happen, and there's nothing that can stop human feelings.

It can be even harder for actors to maintain strictly platonic relationships with their co-stars. Especially when they are already portraying a blossoming romance. Coming to the set every day and portraying intimacy with another person, it's way too easy to fall into the emotional trap. This is exactly what happened with TBBT's Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki.

Everyone was thrilled to hear that Penny and Leonard's actors had gotten together. But their relationship didn't last long enough to finish filming the show. So the atmosphere on the set was a little awkward for a while.

Although the couple managed to stay civil during their breakup, the emotions were still there, and it was not an easy task to come to the set of The Big Bang Theory every day. But the show had to go on, one way or another, and breaking up Leonard and Penny wasn't in anyone's plans.

On the contrary, the show's co-creator and writer Chuck Lorre did everything he could to keep the two actors as close as possible. At least, that's what Kaley Cuoco strongly suspects. She shared her theory with Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast:

“When we broke up obviously it was a little sensitive for a minute. But I remember those weeks that Chuck had written these episodes where all of a sudden our characters were like sleeping together every other second. Johnny and I talk about it and I think [Chuck] did that on purpose.”

Whether this was a deliberate move or not, we may never know. What we as viewers can appreciate, however, is the level of commitment Galecki and Cuoco bring to their work. Instead of ruining the fan-favorite pairing with interpersonal drama, they manage to spice it up without anyone noticing any strain on the screen.
